As you read this, I am on my way to Portland, Oregon to compete in some race. Honestly, I am not nearly as excited about this race as I was when I spent countless hours this spring training to qualify for it. Maybe I’m just burned out, but in the last month or so I’ve just not been able to very often ”turn a pedal in anger”, as Paul Sherwin would say.
I don’t know, however I am way more excited about riding around Portland and taking in the bike culture. I plan on filing reports from the field to let everyone know what I end up finding in transportation cycling’s North American mecca. Wish me luck and see you soon.

Very interested in hearing your comments on the Portland experience. All summer long I have been collecting stories on Portland’s Bike Culture so I might do a comparison of Portland to the Boulder Bike Culture which in some ways seems very different. Nothing negative on Portland… just different. I know close to nothing of the Austin bike culture, just started to follow this blog a few weeks ago. Good Luck at the race!!
