To feedburner or not?

Totally un-bike-related, but I have changed our RSS feed to Feedburner. I know we have quite a few RSS subscribers, and I would like your feedback. Should we stay with Feedburner? Does that work for you? Or should we go with something else, or just go back to our normal locally served feed?

Fixed-Gear Riders getting ticketed in San Marcos

According to the blog of east Austin store Complete Clothing, fixed gear riders are getting ticketed in San Marcos. Now, this is a real bummer, but I would attribute it more to confusion on the part of law enforcement than any sort of “crackdown on fixed gear culture.” I think it’s more likely that San [...]

In partnership with Jason at ATXBS, we are starting a new weekly feature published on Thursdays to let you know about upcoming cycling and bike culture events occurring in the Austin area so you can plan you weekend accordingly. Please check out ATXBS or the event’s website for any last minute changes if you plan [...]

Transportation cycling rising in national consciousness

And little of this is coming from the bike industry Being the consumer driven society we are in America, television commercials often seem to be the cutting edge on the latest trends in the national conscience (One can argue they book end trends based on the number of super-duty pickup truck ads I still see.) OTHER PARTS OF THIS REPORT: Part I can be found here Part II can be found here Over the next couple of weeks, I am going to be writing a section-by-section summary and info on the City of Austin Street Smarts Task Force 2008 final report, which is Austin’s updated bicycle plan. I will add [...]

Useless bike lanes – can’t we get them where we actually need them?

This weekend, I was walking around south congress while waiting for my bicycle to be worked on at Tsumani Cycles (hi guys!) when I walked by some of the side streets and saw this wonderful bicycle lane. Wonderfully bad, that is. First, this is a neighborhood street, that doesn’t have very much traffic on it, [...]

NYC DOT Commissioner makes space for people, not cars

I just finished watching this video at Bike Portland and was completely blown away with what New York City has accomplished in a very short time under their new DOT Commissioner, Janette Sadik-Khan. She’s only been at work as the Commissioner for about a year and a half, but look at what has been accomplished! [...]

Bicycle News Roundup, 10/27/08

News and interesting stories from the blogs: No Getting Around It: Cycling and Religion Clash Again, Bike Snob NYC Few things are more stressful than awakening on a Monday morning to a full-blown local bike-related civic controversy. And once again, this one involves orthodox Jews and (forgive the simplistic catch-all term which is just too [...]

Dumbest Product of the Week- 9th Edition, Rotating Ice Cream Cone by Kitchen Craft

I’m a little late in the afternoon getting this week’s Dumbest Product of the Week up since this is the busiest time of year for my day job, and Marcus and I decide to add the Austin Bike Plan Petition on top of that. Still, I do not want to disappoint our readers by skipping [...]

This Weekend: LIVESTRONG Challenge

The LIVESTRONG challenge is returning to Austin this weekend, the 25th and 26th. It is, of course, a fundraiser and awareness-raising ride with 10,45,65, and 90-mile routes, along with a 5k run/walk. As far as I know, you can still sign up to participate or volunteer. So go to it! Post-event addition: according to a [...]
