Dumbest Product of the Week takes a one week break

Sorry folks, but due to time commitments for another exciting Austin Bike Blog project we’ll be announcing next week, I’m going to have to punt the latest Dumbest Product of the Week until next Friday.

We’ll be back to ridicule silly consumerism next week, but in the meantime, in the fine tradition of a sitcom clips special we have posted our previous 8 weeks of nominees with the newly created Dumbest Product of the Week Memorial Archive.

Are you saying that bike lanes shouldn’t be part of the city streets ?
Seperating verious traffic that can run at different speeds does acomplish a bigger margin of safety and intice more people to bike to school and work. The second question is should bicycles share the sidewalks with pedestrians ? I agree the laser divices are not the answer and do meet you catagory of Dumb.

I’d say that either car traffic should be slowed down as they have done in Paris to make shared space safer or put in separated lanes/paths so bikes and pedestrians can move safely without fear of being hit. We are never going to get the non-hard core cyclist to use their bikes for transportation if we don’t make it easy and safe for them to get places by bike. As Enrique Peñalosa said earlier this week, “If an 8 year old can’t safely use a bikeway, then it is not a good bikeway.”
