The Street Smarts Task Force advocated hiring the staff in accordance with the best practices of other cities where this stuff actually works, and we agree.

That the Wall Street Journal is reporting on this just proves that ideas about improving pedestrian, transit, and cycling infrastructure are becoming mainstream and pervasive, and no longer fringe.

Is the implication, calliing the WSJ conservative, that conservatives don't ride bikes, aren't concerned about the environment, don't bother with fitness, or all of the above? Be careful with labels.
I generally back the idea of additional bicycle infrastructure, but I will not sign the petition as long as as it asks for (2) government employees for 'outreach'. Create a volunteer task force, like the Street Closure Task Force.
Work it in a private-public mode, and you will probably have more support, and less resistance.
