Austin Bike Culture Events for the coming week

In partnership with Jason at ATXBS, we are starting a new weekly feature published on Thursdays to let you know about upcoming cycling and bike culture events occurring in the Austin area so you can plan you weekend accordingly. Please check out ATXBS or the event’s website for any last minute changes if you plan to head out to any of these events.

Friday, October 31

Halloween Critical Mass! – NO COSTUME, NO LOVE!
5 PM, UT West Mall

Critical Mass holds its month traffic jamming ride on the last Friday of each month. As that is Halloween this month, those joining the ride are strongly encourages to come in costume.

Bicycle Procession of the Spirits
7 pm, gates to the Oakwood Cemetery (between 14th and MLK on Comal) 

Sponsored by the Austin Bike Zoo, this Halloween Bicycle Procession will feature music by PONG rolling the neighborhood on the Austin Bike Zoo’s pedal powered stage, the Rattlesnake bike, other bike zoo animals dressed for the occasion, various bicycle floats by a variety of eclectic artists, all of you in your favorite costume on your favorite ride, come one, come all to celebrate the night when all of the spirits party in the streets! Adventure awaits you!

Yellow Bike Project Halloween Party
10 PM, Creekside Lounge, 606 East 7th Street

Another big bash to to benefit the YBP Building Project. Live Music by Flaming Fire, Foot Patrol, Magnifico, and Mistress Stephanie & her Melodic Cat. Donations will be collected at the door.

Saturday, November 1

Texas Custom Framebuilder’s Show

The Story of Cru Jones, a young man who can overcome all obstacles that prevent him from participating in the BMX race “Helltrack.” ATXBS says, “RAD is pretty much the best movie ever made that even marginally relates to the bicycle.”

Part film festival, part performance art, part I have no f***ing idea. Check out the trailer for no additional information.

Austin Cycling Association Membership Meeting
7 PM, LCRA Board Meeting room, Hancock Building on Lake Austin Blvd
This will be a real barn burner with officer elections and the adoption of the 2009 ACA budget. Seriously, if you care about the future of ACA and want input on projects for next year, please attend.

 

Tuesday, November 4

Election Day- Go Vote if you didn’t vote early
Polls open 7 AM- 7 PM

Vote at your polling precinct. Visit Travis County Elections to look up registration and find your polling location. Voter Registration card or form of ID is all you need.

Dirty Derby Cyclocross race series
Registration begins 6 PM, First race at 6:30, Austin/Del Valle Motorcross Park, 15400 Pearce Ln, Del Valle

Discover the fastest growing type of bike racing in America, cyclocross. Ride yourself into oxygen debt on road and off road while also dismounting occationally to carry your bike. It’s way more fun than it sounds. This series with beginner, intermediate, and open races runs every Tuesday until January 6.
