The Cool Mint Cafe, a terrific restaurant in San Marcos that Elliott and I have eaten at a few times, is having a benefit for its Sous Chef, Bennett Hollenbeck. Bennett was injured in a bicycling accident on November 9, and has had to undergo reconstructive surgery.
On Sunday, December 7, from 5-8pm, the restaurant will have a benefit for Bennett, with great food and live music. Here’s a bit from their email promoting the event:
Five nights a week and every Sunday brunch, behind the service window on the hot line is the champion of the Cool Mint Café, Sous chef Bennett Hollenbeck. He challenges himself to prepare inventive specials that showcase products purchased from farmers that day. He challenges the front of the house to get the orders in to him quickly and pick them up promptly. He challenges his kitchen staff to serve only that which they can be proud of and keep a clean and sanitary environment. He challenges me to find new and inventive ways to keep the traffic flowing so that we have guests to please and wholesome, fresh products to create wonderful meals.
Tickets are $7 per person, which is a very good deal, considering the quality of the food. Call the restaurant at 512-396-2665 to buy them.
