Today, I leave to begin a two week intensive class in building and brazing steel lugged bikes with master frame builder Doug Fattic. I’m heading to Chicago for the day with extended family and will take the train Sunday morning to Niles, Michigan, Doug’s home.
I have feelings of excitement, trepidation, and a little melancholy knowing this will be the longest I’ve been away from family since I married ten years ago. After feeling totally overwhelmed earlier this week, I calmed myself by reading the blog of a previous student at Two Serious Bikes and finally watching the frame building how-to video of Tim Paterek that I ordered several months ago. Both calmed my fears that I am totally unqualified to do this yet reminded me that the process of hand building custom bicycles is not fast or without meticulous work.
So I begin my journey, ready to learn and hopefully discover a new passion.

I´m sure the framebuilding class will be lots of fun and I must admit I would love to have the chance to go through it myself.
I will keep an eye here to read your next posts about this subject
Have fun!
