As part of our continuing coverage of the Secretary of Transportation cabinet position under President-Elect Obama, I wanted to point our readers to this opinion piece I read this morning from the San Jose Mercury News. A strong endorsement for Steve Heminger, Executive Director of the Bay Area Metropolitan Transportation Commission. Here’s a small portion:
As the leader of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, he has guided more than $1 billion a year for the operation, maintenance and expansion of our region’s transportation network, putting him in an elite class of transportation leaders.
The Bay Area’s economy is larger than all but eight states and 17 foreign countries. The region has three international airports, several seaports, toll bridges, severe demand on the freeway infrastructure, and 28 fiercely competing transit agencies — called the “Beirut” of the transit world by outsiders.
Sounds like Mr. Heminger really wants the job.
