One of the things that surprised me on moving from the UK to the Netherlands is that in this country you simply don't see articles like this in the press, letters to the editor, or TV programmes on which cyclists are marginalized or made into scape-goats. Anything in society becomes acceptable if enough people do it. In this country, everyone cycles. This perception about cyclists being outlaws who get a free ride comes from cycling being a minority pursuit.
