My apologies for the two week absence of this weekly post. While I was gone learning to build bicycle frames, it was very hard to make posts and I neglected to ask Marcus to take up this project. Hopefully, we’ll see no future lapses in providing you a quick round up of bike culture events in Austin for the upcoming week with ATXBS as our guide.
Thursday, December 18
Austin Bicycle Advisory Council Meeting
6:30 PM, Texas Bicycle Coalition headquarters, 6th and Chicon
The Austin Bicycle Advisory Council is a committee of Austinites representing cyclists’ interests to the City of Austin and meets monthly to advise staff of the City of Austin Public Works Bicycle and Pedestrian Program. Meeting are open to the public, and their normal meeting time is 6:30 on the third Thursday of each month. City staff will not be attending this meeting. Purpose of the meeting will be discussing bylaws.
Third Urban Roadie Night Ride
7 PM, Epoch Coffee, 221 W North Loop Blvd
All levels of riders are welcome on this 20 mile night ride with stops to regroup. Lights are mandatory and helmets strongly recommended. Come early and enjoy some coffee and a snack before the ride.
Friday, December 19
League of Bicycling Voters Meeting
5- 7 PM, Opal Divine’s on 6th
The League of Bicycling Voters will be having their monthly meeting to discuss:
I. Project Catapult (Planning and involvement process for major investments in bicycle projects/programs)
II. Coordination of Planning Projects / Development Review by LOBV Volunteers
III. Discussion and Possible Vote on Political Action Committee Formation and Management of PAC
IV. Action Plan for Membership Recruitment
VI. Update on LOBV Projects

Dirty Derby Cyclocross race series
Registration begins 6 PM, First race at 6:30, Austin/Del Valle Motorcross Park, 15400 Pearce Ln, Del Valle
Discover the fastest growing type of bike racing in America, cyclocross. Ride yourself into oxygen debt on road and off road while also dismounting occationally to carry your bike. It’s way more fun than it sounds. This series with beginner, intermediate, and open races runs every Tuesday until January 6.
