Submissions, submissions everywhere

So do you feel lucky, punk? Do ya?- Dirty Harry

While surfing the web this morning, I came across a few submission opportunities for our fellow cyclists to win prizes and glory. If you think you’ve got what it takes, by all means submit away.

Trek Women Who Ride Contest
Submission Deadline: Saturday, January 24, 2009

We’ve been a little critical of Trek in the past, but they do make a solid product and have a history of supporting cycling in general. To that effect, Trek wants to see more women on bikes (hopefully on WSD models) and is making a call to select this year’s Trek Women Who Ride. Selected participants will be given a brand new Trek Women Specific Design (WSD) bike to match their riding style, Trek gear for women, and access to Trek’s professional trainers. In return, winners commit to writing a blog about their cycling life with some possible public speaking. The participation period is April 30, 2009- May 1, 2010. Check out the Women Who Ride section of Trek’s site to read this last year’s participants entries and see what you are getting yourself into.

So I know Austin has at least 12 Cute Commuters that could qualify for this. Any other ladies on two wheels want to get free stuff in return for a little writing? More info on the contest is here and the deadline to enter is Saturday, January 24.

International Bicycle Film Festival 2009 Bike Movie Submissions
Submission Deadline: Saturday, February 7, 2009

Last fall, the Bicycle Film Festival made a stop for the first time in Austin. The two day fest involved a collection of cycling related shorts and full feature films including one of my favorites, Waffle Bike. I was incredibly bummed that I was out of town that weekend, but according to Jason at ATXBS, they are currently planning on making Austin a stop again in 2009. Sweet! There is not a schedule for 2009 currently on their site, but we’ll let you know as soon as it gets scheduled.

To that end, the promoters of the International Bicycle Film Festival are calling for submissions for this year’s circuit. Entries should be submitted in a DVD or miniDV format, and while they’ll accept films of any length, those “shorter than 10 minutes are easier to program.” (Read: if you are longer than 10 minutes, it better be damn good!)

How about it Austin? Do we have another Bike Like U Mean It in us? If so, visit the Bicycle Film Festival website to get your submission form and get your film in no later than Saturday, February 7.

Austin Bike Blog’s next big contest
Submission deadline: TBA

So maybe I’m burying the lead for our fine publication, but Marcus and I are planning another contest this winter/spring to followup on our “What’s the biggest thing you’ve carried on your bike?” Contest from this fall. We had lots of great entries and several deserving winners.

We are still finalizing the rules and prizes, but look for a contest announcement in the near future. I will give you a hint as to the nature of this contest: it will involve the use of your mind as well as your legs.
