Regular Bike Polo matches come to Austin

This didn’t make it in time for the weekly calendar of Austin Bike Culture Events, but that’s OK ’cause it deserves its own post.

I just saw over at ATXBS that the guys who’ve been putting together occational bike polo matches have gone legit (well, as legit as bike polo gets) and formed an Austin Bike Polo Club at the League of Bike Polo and are starting a regular friendly, weekly hardcourt match every Sunday at 4pm at Bartholomew Park off East 51st. All bikes and skill levels are welcome, and Robert, the organizer, has spare mallets and balls available if you don’t have any.

So what is Hardcourt Bike Polo? Wiki says “Hardcourt Bike Polo is a variation of traditional Bicycle Polo in which teams of players ride bicycles and use mallets to strike a small ball into a goal.” I think its more guys and gals on bikes re-living their childhood and having way too much fun.

So check it out!

No problem, Robert. Let us know any other events you have, and we’ll add it to the calendar. We want to promote anything bike related so people know about it and can check it out.

Thanks Elliott, I will for sure let you all know of any events… hopefully in the future we can start hosting Polo tournaments, just need people to come out and see how fun it is first!

Hey, we’re trying to get space for this in Honolulu. Does it permanently mark up the tennis courts, or do the marks just come off later?

I would think on a nice tennis court it would leave marks, not necessarily permanently, but for a while. We play on straight concrete courts, so it doesn’t matter if there are marks.
