A recent posting on the Gristmill included this video of a bike valet City of Santa Monica instituted for their downtown farmer’s market. They were faced with an automobile traffic and parking problem and decided to fund this program as a solution. This has become a very popular, heavily used service.
Time also had an article back in 2007 about this program as well as other programs to provide safe storage of bikes.
Austin has done some of this off and on in the past at First Thursdays, SXSW, and Austin City Limits fest, but there has been no established regular program and all of these have been done by the event organizers or volunteer organizations. It seems like making this a part of regular events and advertising it would further encourage people to bike instead of drive.
