Last night, the city’s Urban Transportation Commission (UTC) adopted the following recommendations to send along as input for the Downtown Austin Plan, which is in progress:
Whereas the Downtown Austin Plan intends to create the best multi modal system possible, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee of the Urban Transportation Commission recommends to the full Commission, that:
-
On roads where bicycling is designated as a priority, safety overlay should be planned to anticipate the potential use by B or C cyclist to connect to their final destination
-
Topography issues should be addressed when choosing priority one or two routes, and,
-
Red River Street should become a priority street for cyclist instead of Trinity Street because of topography and bus staging issues.
Looks good, especially the concern for all types of cyclists. We will report more as the downtown plan progresses.
