Drunk driver who hit cyclists Saturday arrested

youareawankerThis was reported in the Austin American-Statesman’s Blotter yesterday afternoon, but I just got it forwarded to my inbox. Austinite Rudy Calderon was arrested for failure to stop and render aid, public intoxication, and driving under the influence after hitting cyclist Cory Nowell on Saturday night.

The Statesman reports:

Cory Nowell . . . was injured near East Riverside Drive and Royal Crest Drive , according to Calderon’s arrest affidavit.

Nowell told officers that he was riding his bike on Royal Crest Drive when he was struck by a maroon Ford Taurus. Nowell said he was lying on the ground and was injured. Calderon moved the bike from underneath the car and drove off, the affidavit said.

WTF? Calderon has the wherewithal to get out of his car to remove the bike he just ran over, but leaves the cyclist to fend for himself. Sounds like a grade-A wanker who should spend some time with the county in an orange jump suit.
