Action Alert: Austin City Council to vote on Lady Bird Lake Trail Extension This Thursday

Please let the City Council know you support this cycling infrastructure

Lady Bird Lake is a jewel in Austin’s crown, and the parks and hike and bike trail surrounding the lake is a public resource for everyone in our community. Unfortunately, the vision of the park has remained incomplete in a 1 mile section where the trail ends and users are forced to out of the park onto busy, congested, and at timed dangerous Riverside Drive. (More info on the project is available at the Trail Foundation site.)

On Thursday, the Austin City Council will be voting on a plan to complete the trail with an on-water boardwalk on this section of the river. Despite broad public support, a vocal group of condo owners along this stretch of the river are opposing the boardwalk because it blocks their view.

Lady Bird Lake is for all of us, not just a handful of condo owners. Please let the Austin City Council know that this part of the trail network is needed and of benefit for all.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

1. Send an email to the City Council: Write the entire council at once now and tell them you support completing the trail with the boardwalk.

2. Call the City Council: E-mail is great, but a call is even better. Here are the numbers for each councilmember.

Don’t let a handful of people stymie the project that will bring so much public good. Act today!
