Bring B-Cycle Velib-style Bike Sharing to Austin?

Marsha Ungchusri sent the following submission  in to us. B-Cycle is a Bike Sharing concept nearly identical in function to Velib in France. It’s a corporate collaboration between health firm Humana, Trek Bicycles, and ad firm Crispin Porter + Bogusky.

bcycleThe site looks promising, but it isn’t backed up with quite enough information to make me feel like it’s not just all “marketing fluff.” The flash animation on their front page is great, though (I’m not embedding it here because it automatically plays, and that will get really old really fast).

Their first system is coming to Denver this summer. Other than that, they seem to be gauging interest in where to expand next here. Marsha said the founder will be at SXSW, so maybe there’s a chance to encourage them to come here next.

Keep up the great work by encouraging the children to ride their bikes. I know so many parents drive their children to and from school because of safety concerns.Mabe an adult supervised one day 1 hr. bike ride thru a local park, that will encourage the children and allow them to exercise the same time! Lots of luck ( Keep The Children Healthy) and away from T/V and silly P/C games.
