City Council passes boardwalk to complete Lady Bird Lake Hike & Bike Trail

Last night, the Austin City Council voted 7-0 to approve the construction of an over-the-water boardwalk on Lady Bird Lake to complete the full 10 mile loop of the Hike and Bike Trail. Thanks to everyone who wrote or called in to express your support for this project. While the project has been approved, it has yet to be funded for construction. In addition, the finalization of design and building materials is still to be determined. The Council is expected to address funding and act on a final design later this year.

Could you label the names of the streets in this picture? I can’t figure out where this is.

To Anonymous, that is just one section of the approved project. The area of town pictured above is roughly from I-35 on the right to the Austin American Statesman building on the south side of the Congress Ave. Bridge (on the left). The main street in the lower part of the image is Riverside.

The entire project goes roughly from this location, under I-35 and over to the East side right around Lakeshore Blvd.

    Hope this helps.

I applaud the City Council for considering the safety of current and future Austinites. The battle isn’t over – the ignorant “Don’t Pave Our Lake” condo owners on Riverside and Lakeshore won’t give up with a lot more immature whining and legal roadblocks.
