Earlier today, we let you know about the Safe Passing Bill (SB 488) coming up before the Texas Senate Transportation Committee on Wednesday morning. Due to Republican plans to disenfranchise minorities, poor people, students, the elderly, women who just got married, women who just got divorced and anyone else they could think of, I mean protect the integrity of the voting system, the committee has delayed this hearing. Check back here or the committee’s schedule page for the rescheduled time.
In the meantime, you can pass the time playing Texas Voter Twister by clicking the picture below to see if your voting rights get denied.

Texas Republicans do not have ‘plans to disenfranchise voters’ any more than Democrats have ‘plans to conduct voter fraud.’

Yes, I’m sure they only doing this out of the kindness of their hearts kind of like how literacy tests and poll taxes are just part of “citizenship.”

That’s bunk. What literacy tests and poll taxes are you talking about? I’m a lifelong Democratic voter, but the show ID bill makes perfect sense to me.
We don’t take people’s word for it that they are 21 at the grocery store trying to buy alcohol. We don’t take people’s word for it if you are trying to legally enter the US, you have to have a visa and a passport.
So what’s so different here? The idea that this is disenfranchisement is a non-starter. If people can’t be bothered to keep their driver’s license from expiring, then that’s their fault. If people’s drivers’ licenses are revoked or suspended, they can get a plain ID card at DPS. If they get married or divorced, they can take their marriage license or divorce decree to the DPS office and apply for a new driver’s license.

Jim, the arguments made for the voter ID bill are the same as those used to justify poll taxes and literacy test and the results are the same.
So are you saying only people who own a car and drive can vote? Where does it say we are all required to get government ID cards? You are assuming everyone has the means to pay for and ID card which is a defacto poll tax. If you are going to take someone’s rights away or make it more difficult to exercise their right to vote, so me some evidence that there is actually a problem. Otherwise, let’s have the LEge get back to trying doing what they seem to enjoy: tearing down the barriers between church and state.
