So are you saying only people who own a car and drive can vote? Where does it say we are all required to get government ID cards? You are assuming everyone has the means to pay for and ID card which is a defacto poll tax. If you are going to take someone’s rights away or make it more difficult to exercise their right to vote, so me some evidence that there is actually a problem. Otherwise, let’s have the LEge get back to trying doing what they seem to enjoy: tearing down the barriers between church and state.

We don’t take people’s word for it that they are 21 at the grocery store trying to buy alcohol. We don’t take people’s word for it if you are trying to legally enter the US, you have to have a visa and a passport.

So what’s so different here? The idea that this is disenfranchisement is a non-starter. If people can’t be bothered to keep their driver’s license from expiring, then that’s their fault. If people’s drivers’ licenses are revoked or suspended, they can get a plain ID card at DPS. If they get married or divorced, they can take their marriage license or divorce decree to the DPS office and apply for a new driver’s license.
