Feetbelts: San Marcos fixed gear-heads recycle seat belts into toe straps

feetbelt1I’m always a fan of recycling and retooling products. Once you’ve manufactured something, most of its carbon footprint has already been established (including with cars!) so you might as well figure out another use for it rather than throwing it away and buying new. The cycling community seems to get this pretty well whether we are talking about couture, furniture, or sculpture

So I was delighted to discover some fixed gear riders down the road in San Marcos are recycling car parts into useful cycling accessories. Feetbelts are repurposed car seat belts into pedal toe staps. They come in a variety of colors for $20 a pair plus $5 in shipping (unless you want to ride down to San Marcos) and can be ordered online at the Feetbelts online store.

The guys at Feetbelts have put together this little video to showcase their product. The underwear shot is for free.

Did you notice the guy riding in the video is not using Feetbelts? Thanks RTMS.

I guess it’s more the idea of them that’s cool, eh?

A closer look at the Carbon Drive Systems belt drive. The belts are made XC is a light and fast way to carry fluids and a little bit of gear. A unique strap arrangement integrates the shoulder and waist straps into a single loop. The rear brake housing stop is cleanly integrated into the seat clamp.
