That would be great if you wanted to reprint those posts! Safe Passing is our number one legislative priority this session, and any way people can spread the word is great. we won't be asking people for action until the bill gets hearings in the House and Senate transportation committees, and then again when it reaches the floor of each, but we do want to raise awareness with cyclists about it. it's a really important bill for cyclist safety in Texas.

i'm putting your email on our update list now. thanks for putting the word out!

Emma - I'm pretty sure I am a member but if I'm not, I'll join over the weekend. I hear there's a great deal at Bicycle Sport Shop...

Will you all mind if we reprint your posts on the safe passing bill? I had talked to Robin about getting updates a few weeks ago but that was before anything happened that could be published.

as for increasing membership, anything y'all can do to keep people updated with our work on Safe Passing at the legislature will help, and i'll make sure you're on our Action Alert list. oh, and are *you* a member? :)

Emma - comments with links sometimes get stuck in our spam queue. I'm glad you commented again about that, it made me go dig it up faster!

Anything we can do to help increase TBC membership, just let us know. We are strong believers that cyclists must be politically organized.

Thanks, Marcus for spreading the word! It's especially important for folks to join right now, while we're working so hard to pass the Safe Passing Bill in the state legislature. As I'm sure you know, this would require a motorist to give at least 3 feet clearance to a cyclist s/he is passing, and would also create penalties for dooring, the right hook, etc.

Not only do more BikeTexas members translate to more power for cyclists at the lege, but membership dollars are what fund our legislative efforts. We're very optimistic about the success of the Safe Passing Bill this session, but we can't rest on our laurels until it's through!

If anyone wants more information on Safe Passing 2009 and where we are in the legislative process, you can go to our website www.biketexas.org

Thanks! -Emma
