Signing up for the Austin Commuter Challenge at City Hall

After their noon press conference today, the Austin Commuter Challenge has officially been launched. You can sign up as an individual or as part of a team. There was talk about maybe forming a League of Bicycling Voters team, for example.

So now that the site is up and launched, go do it! We were thinking about forming an A2W team but I think it would be more fun to tag on to another organization’s effort. If you’re forming a team, let us know and we can help publicize it.

I just signed up (mesgdesign), and it was quick and easy. One thing to note is that it’s a little confusing to look for local teams at the moment. Hopefully we can get some clarification from Bicycle Sport Shop on how that part really works.

There is an LOBV team, but the site lacks a search function to find a team. If you click on the ‘competition’ tab, then at the bottom under where it says ‘view teams’ you’ll see a pager that goes from 1 to 12. Click on ‘12′ and you’ll see the LOBV team and can join it.

That’s a real hindrance. Search is so essential on the web in general. I’ll look for LOBV, though.

Once someone has committed to being a team captain they should join a challenge. Then users will be able to view the teams and their information by going to the competitions tab, clicking on all competitions and then selecting the competition they would like to view.

This will list all of the teams that are participating. From there you will be able to see who is on the team or send the captain a message.
