The City Department of Public Works has put out this statement regarding MLK, Jr. Blvd which might effect cyclists this weekend:
Weather permitting; the City’s contractor will place the final layer of asphalt on MLK, Jr. Blvd from Lamar Boulevard to Pearl Street this weekend on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5.
MLK will be closed to all through traffic from Lamar to Guadalupe between 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM each day. MLK from Pearl to Guadalupe will be open to local traffic only.
Please follow the posted detour signs along the project perimeter and exercise caution when driving in the area.
On Sunday the contractor will install temporary pavement markings. The permanent pavement markings will be installed during the week between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, at which point a bicycle climbing lane will be installed heading eastbound from Lamar Boulevard to Pearl Street. Westbound cyclists are expected to take the main traveling lane when descending the hill.
