Here’s a quick run down of recommended events for the coming week from our comprehensive calendar of all cycling events. Thanks to Jason at ATXBS for letting us know about some events we couldn’t find elsewhere. Thursday, April 16
Kenny Hill AutoWerks’ Driveway Criterium Races
4:30 PM, Community Rally, 5:30 PM, Races, The Driveway, 8400 Delwau Ln
Weekly Thursday night road racing through October that takes place on the closed car-free driving course at the Driveway. Races include Cat 4/5 at 6:10, Cat 3/4 at 5:30, Pro/Cat 1/2/3 at 6:45 to choose from with a fourth Masters race (40 + years old) running from May 21- August 6 starting at 7:45. Open riding during Community Rally from 4:30- 5:30 PM. Races registration $20, Rally $10. $5 off with 8 oz can donated to Capital Area Food Bank. See our article about the series for more info.
Thursday Night Bike Polo
5:30 PM, Eastwoods Park, 3001 Harris Park Ave
The Austin Bike Polo Club has added another weekly match to the regular Sunday afternoon affair. All bikes and skill levels are welcome and spare mallets and balls are available if you don’t have any. Check out our recent article on bike polo for more info.
Bicycle Advisory Council
6:30 PM One Texas Center, 505 Barton Springs Rd, 8th floor large conference room
The Austin Bicycle Advisory Council is a committee of Austinites representing cyclists’ interests to the City of Austin and meets monthly to advise staff of the City of Austin Public Works Bicycle and Pedestrian Program. There will be discussion of the new draft 2020 Master Bike Plan as well as filling three vacancies on the BAC.
Urban Night Ride
7:30 PM, Lamar Blvd Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge
A new ride from the Facebook group Social Cycling ATX. Meet at Pedestrian Bridge at 7:30p.m. leave at 8:00p.m. sharp. Bring your cameras & twitter phones and get some good sunset shots.

1st Annual San Marcos 100 Ride
Java Dive Organic Cafe, 1607 Ranch Road 620 N, Lakeway
The Lake Travis Cycling club is hosting this 105 mile ride in the scenic Hill Country. Please RSVP if you plan on riding.
Mellow Johnny’s Scout-A-Ride: Marathon Preview
8:30 AM, Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop, 400 Nueces St
Saturday mornings spent exploring City of Austin bike routes finding new neighborhoods and ways to get around on your bike. This week’s theme is Marathon Preview. The easy way to do 26.2 miles. We’ll ride the Austin Marathon course passing through some of Austin’s most scenic neighborhoods. Come by at 8:00 for pre-ride coffee. STORM Hill Country Challenge – Mountian Bike OMNIUM
9 AM, Flat Rock Ranch, Comfort
This is an OMNIUM RACE with the following races: SHORT TRACK • PIPELINE HILL CLIMB TIME TRIAL • CROSS-COUNTRY. The TT and Cat 1 Short Track will be held on Saturday. All the Cross-Country will be held on Sunday. Flat Rock Ranch is located just outside of Comfort, Texas in the beautiful Texas hill country. The Dreiss Family has owned and operated the ranch for over 100 years. Beginning in 1999, STORM has built and maintained mountain bike trails at Flat Rock Ranch. There are over 25 miles of sweet single-track with epic switchback climbs, technical sections and sustained descents. The trails offer stunning views of the surrounding Texas Hill Country.
Sunday, April 19
Austin Flyers Sunday Walnut Creek Park Mountain Bike Ride
9 AM, Walnut Creek Municipal Park 12138 N. Lamar Blvd
Meet in the pool parking lot at 8:45, roll out at 9:00. The ride will be 14 miles at an advanced pace w/ minimal stops. This will be a “no drop” ride but not fully supported.
Red Licorice Hill Repeat Madness Road Ride
9 AM, Anderson High School, 8403 Mesa Dr
Red Licorice Events is sponsoring this training ride for the Real Ale Ride on May 30. Location to be determined. Ride #3 in the Real Ale Ride training rides series. Be prepared to conquer the challenging hills of Blanco, TX. Test your legs on Far West, Ladera Norte and Smokey Valley. Meet in the Anderson High School parking lot at 9 am or at either Bicycle Sport Shop store at 8:30 am to ride over.
Easy Street’s 2009 ‘Bent Event
11 AM- 5 PM, Easy Street, 5555 North Lamar Blvd., Building C, Suite #C127
Get laid back and celebrate everything recumbent. There will be casual and hard core rides at 11 AM, rolling art bikes from Austin Bike Zoo, representatives from recent bike makers showing off bikes and answering questions, a variety of bicycle-oriented mad scientists showing off their projects, food and music.
Sexy Sunday BMX/Fixed Session and Footdown Competition
1 PM, Parmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Rd
Bring your BMX or fixed gear bike for a weekly, friendly tricks competition. This week there will also be a Sexy Sunday alleycat race. Bring $5, your bike, and a bag
Capital City BMX Weekly Race Series
1 PM, Capital City BMX, 15010 FM Road 620 North
The Capital City BMX opened in November 2008 and offers you a chance to learn and race BMX. BMX races are held every Sunday with rider check-in 1-2 PM. Cost $10/rider. (There is also practice time on Saturday’s. Check Capital City BMX for more info.)
Hardcourt Bike Polo

Urban Transportation Commission Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee

The Urban Transportation Commission advises the city council, city manager and all other transportation-related departments concerning transportation-related matters. This subcommittee works on bike and pedestrian related issues that are considered by the entire commission.

Bicycle Sport Shop Commuter Clinic- Design My Ride

Part of a weekly clinic to help get you commuting by bike. This week’s theme: Design My Ride, How to Pick the Right Bike and Gear. An open dialog discussing specific commutes and the gear needed.
April Midnight Ridazz Pub Crawl- Never Nude

Join in for this monthly pub crawl. This month’s theme is Never Nude. Get ready to be smeared with blue paint.
