Texas Framebuilders Section Added to Sidelinks

Over the last several months, we’ve begun producing profiles of local framebuilders like KirkLee and True Fabrication. To help you find a great local maker of hand built bicycles, we recently added a new section on our sidebar links listing all the Texas framebuilders we are aware of with active businesses.

Here’s a quick rundown of the builders:

UPDATE: Alchemy Bicycle Company- We missed this local Austin builder in our initial post. Builder James Flatman makes road, fixie, and mountain bikes including 29ers from steel and titanium.

Crumpton Cycles- Longtime, nationally recognized builder Nick Crumpton makes custom carbon road bikes.

Daltex Handmade Bicycles- Glenn Thompson of Dallas makes great lugged steel road and mountain bikes under the Daltex brand. He is also the brains behind the first Texas Custom Framebuilder’s Show held last fall. The show will be coming to Austin this fall. Stay tuned for more info soon.

Dominion Bicycles- A new builder on the Austin scene, Scott Ross of Dominion Bicycles offers steel lugged road, mountain, time trial, messenger, and cyclocross bikes.

Firemans Texas Cruzer- Since 1998, Firesmans Texas Cruzers have been making steel BMX style frames on 24″ and 26″ wheels. Recently, they made a bike for Real Ale Brewing Company to celebrate the introduction of their popular Firemans No. 4 Ale.

Giano Fabricata- Pure Austin owner Beto Boggiano’s bike building company makes fully custom bikes in steel and carbon.

Griffen Bicycles- Based in Decatur, Texas, Griffen makes performance carbon bikes but is well know in the triathlon community for making tri bikes for Ironman legends like Dave Scott and Paula Newby-Fraser.

KirkLee- A favorite of U.S. Road Race Champion Tyler Hamilton, we profiled this custom carbon builder back in January.

Legend Bicycles- Based in Dallas, Legend specializes in custom titanium road and mountain bikes with killer names like MagiCarpet and Ti Fighter.

Southwest Frameworks- David Cheakas has been making hand made bikes out of steel in nearly every style for the last 23 years in of his Dallas workshop.

True Fabrication- Not everyone can make TIG welds look good but the trio of Cody Baron, Clark Davidson, and Cole Thompson know how to make lovely steel road and 29er mountain bikes with very nice looking welds.

Violet Crown Cycles- Specializing in customer, hand built Dutch style city bikes, A2W editor, yours truly, is launching this frame building enterprise in Austin this month.

Willits Bikes- UPDATE: SHOP CLOSED. One of the founders of the 29er movement, Austinite Wes Williams has been building steel and titanium mountain bikes for 20 years including Monster X, a “29er/cyclocross mutant.

Did we leave anyone out? Let us know if we’ve omitted any active Texas commercial builders.

Thanks, We’ve added Gallus to the sidebar. I hadn’t realize Jeremy had gotten his website set up.
