Austin Bike Zoo “Wheels of Wonderland” Performance

Last night my wife and I went to the Austin Bike Zoo’s HQ at 91 Red River for something Elliott had put on the calendar. I had no idea what to expect, but we ended up being really glad we were there! The Bike Zoo is putting on a performance they call “Wheels of Wonderland,” based on Alice in Wonderland but with a few humorous and interesting twists – some bike themed of course. I won’t go into the plot changes from the usual so as not to ruin the surprise.

The crowd for the event was well over 100 – in fact there were about as many people present as could be comfortable accommodated in the empty downtown lot that was put into service as an outdoor stage for the evening. Jason from ATXBS and his crew showed up in force too, and in a show of leg power, promptly blew out the pedal-powered generator (not blaming this on Jason mind you, but it was impressive to watch!) so the show had to go on with regular old electricity from an outlet.

We were both very impressed with the quality of the performance and it ended up being an entertaining start to our evening.  If you would like to catch it yourself, they have another performance scheduled for tonight, Sunday, again starting at 6pm and at least next Saturday, May 9.

Austin Bike Zoo Presents “Wheels of Wonderland”
May 3,10 at Republic Square Park, 4th and Guadalupe, 6pm
May 9 at Sunset Valley Farmer’s Market, 11:30am

Free, but donations gladly accepted. Come on, give them at least a few bucks. These guys are a major part of the bike scene here and they work hard!

One quick thing, the performances for the next few shows aren’t going to be at the same location. They’re at Republic Square Park (4th and Guad) for the ones tonight and next Sunday (both at 6pm), and then next Saturday it’s at the Sunset Valley Farmers Market and happens at 11:30am.

I have their flyer posted here: http://www.atxbs.com/?q=node/1066

but check the main ACA Bike Month Calendar for all the pertinent info.

Thanks. Their website is broken, so that’s very helpful.

Of course, Marcus, you could just look at the weekly event round up or our google calendar on our own site to see that the performances are at different locations. ;)
