This story has been circulating on local bike mailing lists and was covered by KEYE a couple of days ago:
An Austin bicyclist seriously injured in an accident is taking action against the Austin Police Department. This, after he found out the officers who responded to the scene did not file an accident report.
On May 4th, Jesse Solorzano said he was riding northbound on South Congress in the bike lane. At about 5:30pm, a car in the left lane crossed over to make a right turn. Solorzano said he couldn’t stop and ran into the car with his bike. He’s upset about what happened directly after that accident, but police said they did everything right.
Jesse is working with attorney Lenore Shefman to gather evidence for a possible case here. If you saw this accident occur around Doc’s South Congress on May 4th, call 415-357-3681 or contact Lenore by email. The APD response so far in this particular case seems pretty unsatisfactory.
