I just got word that the monthly CAMPO Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee meeting for June has been cancelled.
Greg Griffin over at CAMPO did however mention a item on tonight’s CAMPO board agenda to fund an Interlocal Agreement with the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) for up to $100,000 to develop a bicycle and pedestrian traffic count and forecasting method. In plain English, there is currently no standardized way that CAMPO accounts for bicycle and pedestrian traffic with the City of Austin the only local entity that does regular counts. Since CAMPO directs the way federal transportation dollars are spent locally, this could be good news to help determine needs for bike projects eligible for federal funds not to mention a better way to show how many people are now riding their bikes fro transportation.
