Fox reporter charged with dragging cyclist four blocks in Central Park

youareawankerThe blog Gawker is reporting that a Fox News writer, Don Broderick, could face a year in jail for recently striking and dragging a cycling four blocks in NYC’s Central Park with his car then fleeing the scene.

Brodericks’ rational when a writer for Gawker asked him about the incident:

. . . when we asked a Fox News writer how a Central Park cyclist ended up being dragged on the hood of his SUV for four blocks, he blamed the victim, calling the biker a “vigilante.”

That’s like saying the Darfur refugees are vigilantes for asking the Sudanese government to stop killing them. 2-3 Tons of steel versus the human body. Who has the advantage here? Based on the full report of the incident and other irrational, violent outbursts of Broderick, it sounds like a year isn’t anywhere long enough for this creep.

Speaking of hit and runs on cyclists, KVUE is reporting that APD has arrested Jorge Rojas-Hernandez for failing to render aid after hitting local cyclist Theodore Arias with his pickup truck. KVUE says the cyclist is “in critical condition with a lacerated liver and numerous broken bones.”

Finally, not all news is bad. This morning ATXBS posted this picture from local photographer Zach Hollandsworth of a little cycling ”vigilante” action on South Lamar.

As an avid cyclist that is a part time bike commuter putting between 150-350 miles on a bike per month and am a past sponsor of a bike team and promoter of bike races, in addition I organize a small weekly group ride in the central Texas area. its deplorable that anyone would hit someone with a car and not stop and render aid. I hope they throw guy in Jail.

That being said the real reason I wrote, you promote illegal Graffiti? While I agree with the statement. I hope the bozo that tagged the sign gets busted and fined. I don’t understand why people think this is justified and I do find this bad news. Its bad news anytime we as civilized, freedom loving Americans, condone illegal actions of one person degrading the property of another person, no matter the cause there is no justification. How the heck do you think motorist will give cyclist respect if we promote destroying other peoples property, for our own selfish amusement. This is as bad for cyclists as critical mass. The fact that you and other cyclists don’t condone it only proves lack of moral character. The person that tagged this sign does not deserve the freedom they have. While you could argue that its not as bad as hitting someone with a car. I would argue that the frame of mind of these two people, the motorist that purposefully hits a cyclist and the tagger, show a total disrespect for another person, their creation, and their property and both are despicable and deserve punishment. To make light of either, or call either justified. shows lack of character, and respect. so if you know where this is you should call the Austin Police Graffiti Removal hot line 512-854-4125 to report it.

and for those that would reply to my comment and tell me to “lighten up.” My response is I’ll lighten up when you stop condoning illegal defacing of property. How would you like some one to come up to you bike with a spray paint can and give you a new paint job without permission? you wouldn’t like it now would you. If you would like it tell me where your bike will be and what time and I’ll choose the colors. So what the hell makes Illegal graffiti ok? I’ll tell you what NOTHING!!!!

    Grow some Values!

I would post this on the atxbs.com page to but I don’t feel like registering. so if you are atxbs.com I hope you read this and get some values.

It’s a billboard and the best one I’ve seen in a while. Not promoting junk because it’s empty. Billboards are for messages and this one will doubtless be covered by an ad really quickly. Billboards show total disrespect for public space. It’s good that a moral message is on this one even if it is temporary. Sometimes people come at an issue from so far out someone has to come and provide some balance. I feel this is one of those occasions.

I am not sure the the billboard tagging is as clearly polarized an issue as mreagan makes it out to be. Yes it was not their property, but the billboard owner doesn’t need to take any special actions to remove the tagging, placing an advertisement willl cover the tagging.

If it was a perfect tagging job, they would have attached their own paper onto which the tagging was placed, then there would be no damage what-so-ever.

As for Don Broderick, a year jail is could be a very good thing. Hitting and dragging someone with your SUV is not acceptable behaviour. I find it funny he was calling the cyclist a “vigilante” when he is using his car as a weapon.
