		<description>Indeed. The League of American Wheelmen (now the League of American Bicyclists) started as an organization to advocate for more paved roads making it easier to bike places. Their successes paved the way literally for the supremacy of the automobile in America.</description>

		<description>I think I read somewhere that part of the reason the auto industry grew in Detroit was a combination of a thriving bicycle industry combined with lots of paved bike paths that were suitable for early cars.  It&#039;s just coming full circle I guess.</description>
