Armstrong to move to new Team Radio Shack

Yesterday, we reviewed some of the off road drama going on at the Tour de France regarding post race sponsorships and what will happen to the currently dominant Team Astana. Today, a website featuring Armstong under the name Team RadioShack was launched and with more announcement expected today and in the next week.

Team RadioShack? What an odd pairing with cycling. It makes me want to break out the old 7-Eleven aor Coors Light team jerseys for the proper amount of irony. Still, I know an awful like of cyclists who geek out on bike components so maybe it’s not so far off. After all, we are seeing a convergence of cycling and do it yourself electronics with the OpenSprint software/hardware powering the Gold Sprints.

It’s an odd pairing, but with Radio Shack in Ft. Worth and Lance in Austin at least part of the year, one can only hope the team will be around these parts. It would be super cool for them to be based here, but I know that’s a huge stretch. They’ll likely be somewhere more beautiful and less truck friendly like Boulder or Cali…
