On Friday, I posted a video of two German teenage girls performing artistic cycling, a version of synchronized fixed gear trick riding set to music. I noticed at the end of the video that while the girls were taking their much deserved applause, some people were setting up a net behind them. I didn’t think much of it until I read a post on the frame builder’s listserv this weekend indicating that they were setting up a Radball net.
Never heard of Radball? Me neither, but just imagine indoor soccer played on special fixed gear bikes with extreme seat setbacks and sissy bars. As much I as like bike polo, this sport gives our bike jockeys a run for their money in sheer physical skill and dexterity.
Here’s a little more about the rules and skills needed in a sadly mullet-free South China Morning Post video (but apparently heavy metal music with electric guitar solo is required for any video about Radball.)
What you you say, ATXBPSC? Are we ready to add Radball to the mix?
And speaking of bike polo, while our local bike polo club provides mallets for anyone wanting to participate in the Thursday evening or Sunday afternoon matches, the blog Hardcourt Bike Polo has recently posted a good step by step guide to making your own personal mallet. Kind of like showing up to a pool hall with your own custom cue, one of these babies will tell everyone you mean business.
