Ladies race free at the Dirt Derby tonight

DirtDerbyFavs-2

UPDATE: Due to track conditions, the Dirt Derby is canceled this week. Ladies Night will be rescheduled for next Tuesday.

Although the Dirt Derby has had a decent women’s showing the last couple weeks, the weekly Tuesday cyclocross and mountain bike short track series wants more participation from the fairer sex. Tonight’s edition will be a Ladies’ Night with free, that’s right FREE racing for all female racers. The racing is really friendly, and the women’s specific race is on a little less challenging course. If you are a woman new to off road racing, this is a great chance to try it out.

Are you a dude that’s bummed you don’t get to race for free because of a stinkin’ Y chromosome? Come in drag and you’ll get to race free too. Just don’t think a putting on a wig alone will do.

If a guy can convince registration they are worthy, then they can race for free too, but lame attempts will not be rewarded. If we get enough people we might even have some “Drag Races” in the inner loop during the beginner race time slot.

In addition to the free racing, each time you register for a race you will be entered in the cyclcross frameset giveaway from Violet Crown Cycles. Austin On Two Wheels and Violet Crown Cycles are sponsoring the the cyclcross series and will be doing a drawing of Dirt Derby participants in December for a free custom cyclocross frameset tailored to your body. Every time you race, you’ll be entered in the drawing. The more you race, the more chances to win. True Fabrication is also doing a frame giveaway drawing for participants who compete in all the races of each 4 week series. Each series you complete you are entered in their drawing.

In addition to these sponsors, Bobby’s Bikes has come on as the mechanical sponsor and will be out at the Derby to provide support. Racing is at the Austin/Del Valle Motorcross Park (ADVMX) around the corner from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport at 15400 Pearce Ln in Del Valle. Registration opens at 6:00, and the B race is at 6:30, the beginners/womens/kids race at 7:00, and the A race/Open is at 7:30. More on the Dirt Derby here.

NOTE ON WEATHER: The Dirt Derby organizers may cancel the race due to weather conditions. Too much rain can make the track unrideable. Check the Dirt Derby site or sign up for their updates to check for cancellations.
