The University of Texas Cycling Club is a great local pipeline for up and coming cycling talent with club members competing in Division I regional and national levels, the highest levels achievable for collegiate cyclists. They also teach racing skills and do community outreach with safety clinics and volunteering at charity events.
To support their efforts each year the group puts on a benefit bike ride, the Sweatin’ Burnt Orange Bike Tour. Entering it’s 5th year, the tour includes routes from 10 to 80 miles weaving through the Texas Hill Country with the 80 mile route stopping in Luckenbach, Texas, home of Waylon, and Willie and the Boys.
Registration is $45 and can be done online through midnight Thursday or on the day of the ride at the registration table. More info including a map of the route on their site.
