Cyclists treated like deer on road, says My SA Blogger Veronica Flores

Gregory and Alexandra Bruehler who were hit from behind and killed earlier this week.
This last week cyclists Gregory and Alexandra Bruehler were killed while riding a tandem north of San Antonio. They were hit from behind by a truck. Of course, the driver was not cited. The Bruehlers have left behind a seven year old daughter, Kylie. This child will grow up without her parents, and the driver of the truck will face no consequences for these actions.
My SA Blog writter Veronica Flores wrote a powerful article yesterday discussing the accident and the shameful fact that Governor Rick Perry vetoed the Safe Passing Law this summer. There is a particularly touching photo of the Bruehler’s daughter at the memorial ride for her parents. Will Governor Perry take care of this orphaned child so motorist can continue to avoid being inconvenienced by cyclists?
She also mentions the BikeTexas petition against Perry’s actions. Would this law have saved the Bruehlers? I don’t know, but maybe it would have reminded drivers that they are driving several ton boxes of steel, not go carts and that it is their responsibility to protect others on the road.

I think we are a little more important than deer, but less important than dogs.

i do not understand how a person mows down two people on a bike, and nothing happens…
to all my enemies in the world: do not ride a bike! i may be just waiting for you in my car.
