Austin Cycling Association adds e-newsletter, revamps meetings

acalogo09The Austin Cycling Association is going through a bit of a rebirth in member and general community communication. In the last year, ACA created an e-mail listserv, and this fall launched a redesigned website with better calendar system and more interactive information and established themselves on Twitter and on Facebook. Even their logo has gotten a little tweak to make it more modern.

Now, they’ve continued the digital update with the creation of an e-mail newsletter. ACA will continue to publish their monthly newspaper, The Southwest Cycling News, but the e-newsletter will allow more timely updates than the monthly paper can provide. You can sign up for the ACA newsletter here.

In addition to these online developments, ACA is working to make their meeting flow better and appeal to more of the cycling community. I spoke with Monica Leo from ACA yesterday, and she indicated that the meeting structure will move away from business focused (letting the open-to-the-public executive committee meeting take up that slack) to more topical, informative meetings. There is also a move to play with meeting location to see what place works best for accessibility and the possibility of enjoying food and drink during the meeting. This change should be coming at the January 4 meeting and rumor is that Austin on Two Wheels will be there taking about the state of Austin cycling and bike culture to kick things off. Stay tuned for more soon.

Glad you’re coming to talk to us in January. I’m interested in hearing thoughts on how we might make our education efforts more appealing to a wider cycling audience.
