Weekly Event Calendar Followup: We missed a few!

Since I had to book it out of town early on Wednesday for the holiday weekend, I did the weekly cycling event roundup a day early. In my haste, I missed a few events including the November Critical Mass which was last Friday. I can’t think of a better way to spend Buy Nothing Day than riding in a bike jamming event, but know that these rides happen every month on the last Friday at 5 PM from the UT West Mall. Also, look for an alleycross cyclocross race to pop up in the next 24 hours as the rain will probably mean the cancellation of the Dirt Derby this week.

Anyway, here’s a few events that missed that have yet to happen plus the Wednesday Night Road Ride which just got its flyer today.

December Full Moon Cruise – Full COLD Moon!
Tuesday, December 1, 11:59 PM, Lamar Blvd Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge, Lady Bird Lake
These cruises have been going strong as an annual event for over 25 years now but have become a monthly affair in the last two years. This Month’s theme: The Full Cold Moon; or the Full Long Nights Moon December During this month the winter cold fastens its grip, and nights are at their longest and darkest. It is also sometimes called the Moon before Yule. The term Long Night Moon is a doubly appropriate name because the midwinter night is indeed long, and because the Moon is above the horizon for a long time. The midwinter full Moon has a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite a low Sun.

Bike for the Climate
Wednesday, December 2, 5 PM, West Mall, UT Campus
It’s the Final Copenhagen Countdown: On December 7, the UN will meet in Copenhagen to draft a new climate treaty. Show the world’s leaders you are ready for a climate treaty that’s FAIR, AMBITIOUS and BINDING (and reduce your carbon footprint!) when you join Oxfam UT for a bike ride to the farmer’s market in the Triangle. Meet in the West Mall at 5pm, bring your solutions-based signs, and wear green! Before the ride starts, be sure to sign a petition encouraging Obama to take strong action in Copenhagen!

Wednesday Night Road Ride XXII
Wednesday, December 2, 7 PM, Drungo Ice House, 2828 Rio Grande St
Formerly the Thursday Night Road Ride, this after dark fitness ride returns after a 7 month hiatus. All levels of riders are welcome on this 20-25 mile night ride with stops to regroup. This is a “friendly drop” ride. This means that if we can see your lights, you won’t drop be dropped. The ride also regroups at the end of any particularly difficult stretch, so don’t worry about being abandoned halfway up Mt. Bonnell. Lights are mandatory and helmets strongly recommended. Come early and enjoy drinks and food before and after the ride.

Glad to see the Bike for the Climate event. Have you heard about these guys, Cycling for Climate? Two guys from Amsterdam currently on their way to C’haven on a couple of old “granny” beaters.

Yeah, I saw something about that over at Copenhagenize. I love Dutch bikes, but riding that kind of distance on them does not seem like a lot of fun. I guess if you have the time . . .
