Chance to help with Bikes for Kids

Bikes4Kids_LOGOFor the past 13 years, Mix 94.7 has put on the Bikes for Kids project each holiday season giving away over 11,000 bikes to local children in need of two wheels. For most of us, the bicycle was our first taste of freedom of movement, seeing our community without constant adult supervision. Bikes have helped generations grow up and these memories often reawaken the passion for cycling in adults.

This year Mix 94.7 will be partnering with Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop to give away Trek bikes. They are needing help assembling the bikes and are building in shifts: Mon-Fri 8am-1pm and 1pm-7pm and Sat 8am-1pm and 1pm-6pm. Builds are going on from now until December 17, or until all of the bikes are built (there are 700 total!). There are some Saturday shifts left, but the most help needed is on weekdays. If you’d like to help, contact Erin O’Neill at erin@mellowjohnnys.com to sign up. Mix 94.7 will also be taking donates for the program at these locations today through December 16 if you don’t have the time but can contribute some funds.

UPDATE: If you know a child or children that are in need of bikes for Christmas, you can nominate them via the Bikes for Kids website.

I am actually asking for a bike for my five year old son, Aiden. I lost my job due to a restaurant going out of business. Although, I have looked and looked, like so many out there I have not yet been hired. My son deserves a Merry Christmas. As a single mother, I will not be able to provide that for him this year. Please help. My name is Elizabeth. My phone number is 512-317-8229. You can reach my sister Melody at 512-547-1197. My address is 2019 Iroqouis, Apt. B.

    Sincerely,
    Elizabeth Davis

LIVESTRONG staff members took part in the festivities at MJ’s today. To recognize staff for our hard work this year, our executive team donated a bike in honor of each staff member- 77 total!- with almost half dedicated to kids affected by cancer. We’re writing up a blog and posting photos in a few. We are so glad to be part of the cycling community here in town. What an awesome place we live in. http://livestrongblog.org.

The bike would be for my son who is age 10 . Due to some tough times in our household we are unable to give him a bike that he desires.I really would like him to get one because I want him to stay active more.If you can help us out that would be great. Thanks anyway !
