Recently, the New York City cycling advocacy group Biking Rules had a bike safety PSA contest to come up with more creative way to inform cyclists how to be safe on the road. There were three 30 second spot winners that were pretty good, but I have to say I’m a big fan of the longer format, neo-retro “Gear Up: Safety ‘N’ You”. I can just here the film projector rattling in the back as I put my head on my desk:
Remember, “Bicycling is fun, environmentally friendly, keeps you fit, and most import of all it is groovy.”
Something that is not so groovy is getting doored. As a Friday Film Fun bonus, here’s a little animated short called “Doored” reminding us to keep an eye on those parked cars.
Be safe out there.

Bike Safety n’ You is hilariously fun, BUT…why, why, why do they insist on teaching that the right way to signal a right turn is by making an “L” with your left arm?!?!? BTW, on the video they show the guy using his right arm to do this!!! What a stupid mistake on an otherwise cool video. The “L” signal is for cars, in fact for old cars with broken signal lights. It was invented because we drive on the left side of the car and can’t stick our arm out the right window. We don’t have that problem on bikes! Get it? Still I see cyclists doing this all the time. All you do is look like you’re waving at someone. Please, please, please, just POINT WHERE YOU’RE GOING!
