City of Austin considering ending late hour free swim at Barton Springs

Your input requested at Wednesday night public hearing

Thank you to an alert reader who let us know that the City of Austin is considering ending the after 9 PM free swim at Barton Springs Pool. This is partly a budgetary decision, but there have also been complaints of drug and alcohol use in the pool area.

So what does this have to do with cycling? Many of Austin’s summertime evening social rides stop or end at Barton Springs Pool. If you want to keep free access to what has been called the heart of Austin, you are encouraged to participate in a public hearing on the potential change this Wednesday night.

Barton Springs Pool Closure Hearing
Wednesday, February 10
6 p.m.
400 Deep Eddy Ave

Looks like things are heading towards no more free swim. I’ll have a fuller report posted shortly.
