Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the period of self reflection in the Christian faith leading up to Easter. During Lent, many Christians give up some personal vice as a fast to further enhance their spiritual journey. Earth Ministries is suggesting those observing Lent take their fasts beyond themselves with a Carbon Fast. They have put together a resource page including a day by day Carbon Fast guide and devotionals.

Daily actions on the calendar vary from turning down your thermostat to riding your bike to church. Here’s the Ash Wednesday suggestion:

Ash Wednesday: Remove one light bulb from a light in your home (without creating an unsafe situation). Do not replace the bulb…for now!
