Thanks to everyone to called and wrote to the Austin City Council to voice concern about the calendar games being played with the Downtown Bicycle Boulevard briefing and to ask for public comment on the staff recommendations. I just heard from Rob D’Amico, President of the League of Bicycling Voters, that Councilmembers Chris Riley and Laura Morrison are pulling the briefing from this weeks agenda and restoring it to the previously agreed upon June 24 meeting. Chalk up one victory for clear transparent process.
At this point, the presentation at the June 24 meeting is still being designated as a staff briefing. This designation means no public input will be allowed to the council regarding the final staff recommendations. Regardless of where you stand on this issue, the staff recommendations are substantial changes to the Council adopted Master Bike Plan, and the public deserves a chance to make their voice heard to the Council about this. We ask everyone in the cycling community to contact our City Council and ask that they allow citizens to voice their opinions on this proposal at the June 24 meeting.
You may contact the entire City Council at once via their group e-mail here: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/council/groupemail.htm OR contact them individually here:
