VO2 closing its doors

The tri shop market for Austin just got a little smaller. Today, the owners of VO2 Triathlon and Cycle announced that they are closing their store immediately.

We have in hands the hard task that is to announce that VO2 triathlon & cycles has closed doors on June 22, 2010.

For the past 18 months we have put our heart, time and money in this venture. We have done so just because of our passion for triathlon and because there’s no greater satisfaction than the feeling of helping people pursuit their goals, either doing their first triathlon or trying to qualify for the world championship in Kona.

The business challenges were many, even before we opened doors. But many clients supported us and this motivated us to keep moving on. We want to thank you all for the great support. Keep training and pursuit your goals! So will we.

Gustavo and Camila

VO2 was a sponsor of Austin on Two Wheels since around the time they opened. We thank Gustavo and Camila for their support of us and the cycling community and wish them the best in their future endeavors.

Wonder how much the BSS store opening up a block away had to do with this. Maybe nothing, but it’s likely that area can’t support the number of shops that were on Parmer within a short distance of each other (Music City -moved, V02 -closed, BSS -new, AJs cyclery).

    RG,
Maybe, though triathlon is a niche that has different needs than a general bike shop. Yes, you can get a tri bike or even a wet suit from a regular bike shop, but those shops tend not to have the focus and expertise triathletes whom are serious about the sport should demand. More than likely VO2 suffered from opening during a down economy and some screwy quirks about the bike industry that don’t deliver bikes when customers actually want to buy them from dealers.
