Today, the Bicycle Film Festival kicks off in earnest in Austin with 2 programs of feature length bicycle films. Here are the details.
Program 1: The Birth of Big Air
7 PM at SUPER! ALRIGHT!, 301 Chicon Ave. Ste. A
It’s about time Mat Hoffman’s story was told and now it has been done by just the right people. Directed by longtime friend Jeff Tremaine and produced by Priya Swaminathan, Spike Jonze, and Mark Lewman, the film pays tribute to this BMX legend. It includes interviews with supporters and fans, like Evel Knievel. This film shows us the sacrifice it takes to be one of the greatest athletes in the world.
Program 2: Empire
9 PM at SUPER! ALRIGHT!, 301 Chicon Ave. Ste. A
No official synopsis from the film makers but based on the trailer and blog, a movie about urban guys riding ridiculously fast on brakeless fixed gear bikes in New York City.
Tickets for individual programs and festival passes are available on the Bicycle Film Festival website. Each program is $10 and the pass for everything is $25. You can also purchase tickets at the door, but several programs sold out last year, so you might want to buy online ore get there early.
Obviously, biking there is encouraged. If you wanted to bike with others, there will be a ride to the festival from Ozone Bikes (3202 Guadalupe St) at 5:30 PM today.
