UPDATED WITH RIDES WE MISSED ON 1ST POSTING!
I’ve been a busy beaver this week updating our comprehensive calendar of Austin area rides, races, and bike events for the coming months. Today, I’ll give you a brief summary of all the upcoming century and charity rides so to aid you in planning training for the spring (and maybe fulfill resolution #1 and/or #2). Look for a preview of the Spring 2011 road racing and triathlon calendar as well in the coming days.
All of the rides listed are scheduled, but not all of them have their 2011 info up yet. Where this year’s info is not available, I’ve included last year’s course. Most of these rides do not change the routes much year to year.
If this is your first time to go long on the bike, check out some of our Training with Sara Krause articles, sign up for a training program with a group like Austin Bike Camp, or head down to the library or book store to find one of the myriad of bike training books. Since there are over a dozen club and shop road rides every weekend from Georgetown to Buda, you shouldn’t have any problem finding a group to ride that meets your distance, speed, and locational needs.

The list is a good start, but its missing at least 1 excellent ride, and probably more that I am not aware of.
The Pedal Power Wildflower ride starts and ends at the LBJ ranch near Johnson City and covers some of the better county roads in that area.
http://www.hccac.org/howhelp/pedalpower/index.html.
I am also organizing a small semi-private 2 ride from Llano to New Braunfels on Feb 19-20. It will be about 170 miles and 9k ft of climbing. I’m capping the ride at 20-25 riders, and we may have a few open slots if anyone is interested. Here is the route from day 2 last year:

Great info on this website.
I highly recommend http://www.saladospokes.com/ This is a very well supported ride with pretty scenery and many routes to choose from. I’ve done the 80 and 103.
Another great ride is the Hill Country River Region Classic http://www.riverregionclassic.org/ It looks like they haven’t updated the site yet. There’s plenty of climbing! They changed the route for the century this past year (104 miles). The century was tough but a great route.

Thanks for the info, Cynthia. We’ll get these rides added to the calendar.
