Social Cycling Austin is best know for their massive Thursday Night Social Ride of chilling on two wheels and cheap or free booze, but now the group is looking to turn their good cycling vibes to the greater good with their new Lend Your Legs Ride. Starting Monday, April 18, the Lend Your Legs riders will pilot a tandem and take kids from the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired along for the ride. The rides will run every Monday for 10 weeks and give some visually impaired kids the chance to experience the freedom and joy of riding a bike.
Lend Your Legs Ride
Every Monday starting Monday, April 18
Shipe Park in the Hyde Park neighborhood
Meet up at 6, leave at 6:30 sharp!
More about the ride:
New ride, new night, doing good, good times, free bike stuff and TNSR style post-ride hospitality.
Starting the evening of April 18nth (Monday) and for the next nine Mondays after that, we are riding and taking some kids from the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired along with us on tandem bikes owned by the school.
What!?
The Texas School for the Blind has 10 tandem bikes (bikes for two people) and some great kids that would love a bike ride once a week. That’s where we come in. We’re going to meet up for ten straight Mondays, head over to the school, get these kids on the back of the tandems and take them for a bike ride. You will literally make their week by doing what you fools do every day anyway. There isn’t an easier way for you to make a kid very very happy.
There are just 10 tandems, but the more people the merrier. It’s a social ride. We can switch off giving rides and just riding along. I’d like to see a large number of y’all riding with us. Come to Shipe Park (map below) on Mondays by 6:30pm. The ride starts from the school (map below) at 7pm (SHARP! these kids are on a schedule) and goes until 8pm.
After the kids are safely back at the school, we’ll head over to a local refreshment establishment for a little Thursday Style Socializing (read: free beer).
But wait, there is more FREE STUFF. Sun and Ski Sports likes this idea so much they want to help out. They’ll be giving out some nice bike goods to those who ride. Also, each rider participating in five of the rides will be getting a nice gift certificate as Sun and Ski’s way of saying “good job”. Five rides also gets you entered in a raffle for a $50 gift certificate AND a bike tune up at their shop. Big thanks to Sun and Ski Sports!
