The City of Austin is considering funding a public bikeshare program in the near future as part of the goals of the Master Bicycle Plan. Bikesharing, short term bike rentals with self check kiosks spread throughout the city or certain neighborhoods, has been credited with some pretty impressive results in other cities.

BCycle, a national, multi-city bikeshare project created by Trek and Humana, recently opened a bikeshare program in San Antonio. They are hosting a bikeshare demo today with sample bikes and a bikeshare kiosk on the south steps of the Capitol Monday until 3 PM.
