LOBV calls for input on new bike lanes around Austin

The City of Austin is getting ready to paint new bike lanes all over town, and the League of Bicycling Voters is encouraging participation in City hosted open houses around town to ensure good facilities get built. In many cases, these new lanes will entail the removal of a limited number of current on street car parking (usually only on one side of the street to ensure there is no parking in the bike lane.) Whether they get used or not, sometimes neighborhood residents get a little prickly about car parking removal so your input is important.

The first of the open houses occurred last night and covered Eberhart Lane (S 1st to S Congress), Eberhart Lane (Cooper to S 1st), Speer Lane (Emerald Forest to Cooper), Banister Lane (Garden Villa to Ben White), Emerald Forest (Stassney to William Cannon), Southridge (Banister to Clawson), and
Victory (Panther to Prather). If you missed that open house or can’t make one of the upcoming ones and you live on or near one of these streets, or if you frequently bike one of these routes, please contact the City of Austin Bike Program with your feedback: Neil Kopper, neil.kopper@ci.austin.tx.us or 512-974-7166.

There will be additional open houses starting tonight. All open houses are 6:00-7:30pm.
