Social Cycling Austin starts second Lend Your Legs series with Meals on Wheels

First training class today at 12:15!

In a real effort to be more than just about drinking on a Thursday night, Social Cycling Austin is holding another series of Lend Your Legs rides on Friday afternoons starting next week. This spring, the first Lend Your Legs series provided tandem drivers on rides for students at the Texas School for the Blind. This summer Social Cycling Austin will be teaming with the Austin Meals on Wheels to deliver food on two wheels to those in need.

For the next several weeks we will be riding on Friday early afternoons for the Meals on Two Wheels Program (a special Meals on Wheels project) delivering meals on one of their routes. The Meals On Wheels distribution center has some special bike trailers made for delivering food. We’ll meet up around lunchtime on Fridays and ride around on a route that takes about 45 minutes, deliver some food and visit with some of the folks. After, we’ll probably ride around and do some swimming.

Those wanting to participate must attend a volunteer training class. The first one will be today at 12:15pm at the Meals on Wheels headquarters at 3227 E 5th Street. If you can’t make this one, be sure to join the Social Cycling Austin Facebook page to get updates for when the next training will be held.

Way to make the world a better place on two wheels, guys!
